How This Violin Changed Everything

My name is Petra Herič, and after six years of intensive study at Conservatorium Maastricht under Professor Boris Belkin, I thought I had everything I needed for a professional career as a classical violinist. I had the training, the mentors, the auditions lined up—everything except one crucial thing: an instrument that would allow me to pursue my ambitions.

For years, I had played a violin that simply could not meet the demands of professional performance. It lacked the responsiveness, the tonal color, and the acoustic projection that professional stages require. My professors noticed it. My colleagues heard it. Most importantly, I felt it every time I performed—the frustration of having more to express than my instrument could facilitate.

When I finally acquired my Daniël Royé violin with support from SEM donors, everything changed. This Dutch-made instrument has given me something beyond superior sound: it has given me freedom. The freedom to pursue a featured position with Royal Caribbean, to prepare for the Ysayë Competition, to audition for orchestras without apology. The freedom to express the full measure of what I've learned and worked toward.

I am deeply grateful to the donors who made this possible. Their belief in supporting young musicians has fundamentally transformed my professional trajectory.
